풀이 우거지고 곤충이 날아다니던 맑은 하천이였던 청계천은 복원과 재생을 위한 저자의 대안과 생각이 담겨 있다. 우선 도입 부분으로 ‘수변의 역사와 풍속문화’의 개념을 설명하고, 청계천 복원의 풍수지리학적 적절성을 말한다. 또한, 청계천 복원을 통해 서울의 중심에 수변도시 공간을 꿈꾸는 이명박 시장의 계획과 복원이 우리에게 가져다줄 매력과 미래 방향성에 관해서도 서술하였다. 중요한 내용으로 도시를 살아가는 미래의 시민으로 수변공간디자인의 중요성에 대한 방향을 이야기하며, 후반부에서는 에코시티에 대해 여러 사례를 예시로 설명하며, 대한민국과 일본 국민에게 알리는 것을 사명(使命)이라 여기고 집필을 했다고 한다.
한 번쯤 청계천에 관한 이야기를 누군가는 들려줄 필요가 있고, 출간할 권리도 있다.
