저자소개

스탕달 (Stendhal)



1783~1842. 프랑스의 소설가. 그르노블(Grenobles) 출생. 본명은 마리 앙리 벨(Marie Henri Beyle). 7세 때 어머니를 여의고 외로운 어린 시절을 보냈다. 16세 때 나폴레옹 군에 입대하였으나, 1814년 나폴레옹이 추방되자 군대를 그만두었다. 모차르트, 로시니의 음악과 이탈리아 미술을 좋아하였으며, 각지를 여행하면서 소설, 평론, 여행기 등을 썼다. 발자크, 플로베르와 더불어 19세기 프랑스의 가장 중요한 작가로 인정받고 있다.

주요 저서에 <하이든, 모차르트, 메타스타시오전(傳) Vies de Haydn, de Mozart et de Metastase>(1814) <이탈리아 회화사(繪畵史) Histoire de la peinture en Italie>(1817) <로마, 나폴리, 피렌체 Rome, Naples et Florence>(1817) <연애론 De l’amour>(1822) <적과 흑 Le Rouge et le Noir>(1830) <파르므의 수도원 La Chartreuse de Parme>(1839) <나폴레옹전 Vie de Napoleon>(1876) 등이 있다.
