에릭 아서 블레어(Eric Arthur Blair, 1903년 6월 25일 ~ 1950년 1월 21일)는 인도에서 태어난 영국 작가이자 언론인으로, 조지 오웰(George Orwell)이라는 필명으로 더 잘 알려져 있다. 그는 20세기 영어권의 가장 중요한 소설가, 비평가, 정치평론가 중 한 명이며 영어권에서 널리 존경받고 있다. 그는 만년의 두 소설 《동물 농장》과 《1984년》으로 특히 유명해졌다.1950년에 오랫동안 앓아 온 결핵으로 세상을 떠났다.
